The Teide volcano is part of the very large Teide national park and is eagerly visited by tourists. Teide was formed approximately 170,000 years ago. Its last eruption took place in 1909.

According to many astronomy enthusiasts, the Teide Volcano is one of the best places on Earth to observe the night sky. It is second only to the Atacama Desert in Chile, the Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii and the Namib- Naukluft National Park in Namibia.
